Almost two years ago the government woke up to the issue of pollution across India with an aim to curb pollution from coal based thermal power plants; the union environment ministry notified stricter emission standards for them. Not only did they tighten emission norms but also fixed water consumption parameters.
The deadline for implementation of these norms was to end today. However, two years on and most power plants are yet to implement these stricter emission standards.
To protest the lack of implementation, non profit organisation, Greenpeace India held a silent protest today. So will the government take action against these power plants for non compliance?
