Two major hospitals in the NCR, Fortis Hospital in Gurugram and Max Hospital in Delhi are in the dock for medical negligence.
In an interview with CNBC-TV18, KK Agarwal, National President of Indian Medical Association (IMA) discussed about the same.
Medically, there are two types of death, temporary death and permanent death. Never declare permanent death till you have resuscitated during the period of temporary death which is 10 minutes in adults and up to four hours in presence of low body temperature, he said.
In case of twins in Max Hospital in Delhi, the doctor on duty made a mistake of considering a temporary death as permanent death, he added.
On overbilling by hospitals he said, all the private hospitals should join together and come out with a third party audit which should have a quality audit, a financial audit, a social audit and a death audit.
IMA is appealing to the government of India to come out with one drug, one company and one price policy. So there will no variations in the prices and in healthcare for all disposables, the MRP should be decided by the government, said Agarwal.
IMA is also discussing the issue of affordable healthcare and you will see a series of recommendations coming from IMA in the next couple of weeks about it, he further mentioned. For full interview, watch accompanying video...
